Citizen Corps Council

The Citizen Corps Council was created to help coordinate volunteer activities that will make our communities safer, stronger,
and better prepared to respond to emergency situations. It provides opportunities for people to participate in a range
of measures to make their families, their homes, and their communities safer from the threats of crime, terrorism, and
disasters. Educating citizens and networking local communities to assist first responders are key elements to
minimizing the threat to individual health, property and overall safety during an emergency situation.
If you are looking for specific volunteer opportunities currently offered by these organizations, search under emergency/disaster preparation in volunteer
opportunities in the advanced search area. Link to Advanced Search
CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) Program educates people about disaster preparedness and trains them in basic
disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, and disaster medical operations. Using their
training, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event and can take a more active
role in preparing their community.  cshawkins@co.pg.md.us
